Entrapment is probably the most serious hidden danger in pool operation today. From 1978-1996 the US Consumer Products Safety Commission reported 49 incidents which ended up in serious injury or death. Court-awarded damages and awards for the victims and their families have ranged in the millions to a high of $ 31 million dollars on a single claim. Drowning deaths by main drain suction entanglement or entrapment can be prevented.
